Ask about generics
If you’re prescribed a brand name medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if there’s a generic alternative available. Doing so can have a big impact on your overall cost for the drug.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the cost of a generic drug is 80 to 85 percent lower, on average, than the cost of a brand name drug. And, generic drugs use the exact same active ingredients, work the same and have the same benefits at a brand name.
