Urinary urgency or leakage causes challenges for many adults and may be inconvenient, costly and embarrassing. Unfortunately, at least half of all people with urinary incontinence don’t discuss the condition with a health care provider. While it is not unusual to experience partial loss of bladder control as we age, it is not an inevitable part of aging. Many effective treatment options exist for urinary incontinence.
Some potential causes of urinary incontinence are listed below.
Urinary incontinence can affect a person’s physical health, may limit physical activity and socialization, interrupt sleep and increase the risk of falls.
Urinary incontinence may also be a symptom of a more serious health problem, which is why it’s important for people who struggle with bladder control to work with their personal doctor to diagnose the cause and develop a treatment plan. In many instances, there are simple ways to significantly improve urinary control.
