The long Labor Day weekend is approaching and here at Network Health, we understand how important rest and relaxation can be for your overall well-being. To help you make the most of the 2023 holiday weekend, we’ve compiled a list of some events and other things to do so that you can make the most of your time off from work.
Of course, we can’t cover all of the Labor Day weekend happenings throughout Wisconsin, so we’ve focused on some of the areas where many of our members call home, including Milwaukee, Oshkosh and Green Bay. Let’s dive in and start planning your weekend of fun.
You can always find a lot to do in Milwaukee, and Labor Day weekend is no different than any other time. Here are a few highlights we dug up that you might want to consider checking out.
Wisconsin Scottish, Inc. offers a unique glimpse at the heritage and traditions of the British Isles. The Highland Games are a part of that, happening throughout Labor Day weekend. Enjoy music from pipe and drum groups, highland dancing and games like battle axe throwing, haggis hurling, longbow archery and much more. The Wisconsin Highland Games open on Friday, September 1, with opening ceremonies, live music and a fish fry, though most of the action will take place the following Saturday and Sunday.
If you’re looking for something free, consider the Third Ward Art Festival on September 2 and 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. From ceramics to paintings, this event shows off the work of more than 120 artists and offers you the opportunity to view and talk about their artwork. Enjoy live music and good food while you’re there too.
The Brewers are playing at American Family Field against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend. On Saturday, the first 30,000 ticketed fans to enter the gate will receive a Brewers fleece vest. Sunday has the Fun-Day Bundle, offering up four terrace outfield tickets, four junior hot dogs, four junior sodas and a general parking pass for just $59.
Oshkosh has taken on the moniker of “Wisconsin’s Event City.” It’s no wonder why, considering there is always something going on in Oshkosh. Here are just a few events taking place during the upcoming 2023 Labor Day weekend.
The Hmong Service Center puts on this Labor Day festival each year, featuring a number of competitions including soccer and volleyball matches, as well as dance and pageant competitions. You can check it out at the Winnebago County Community Parks on September 2 and 3.
If you’re eager to get the football season started, then watch Oshkosh’s own UWO Titans take on the Bulldogs from Texas Lutheran University. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. on September 2. It’s also Senior Day at the stadium. If you’re lucky, you’ll be the winner of a light-up cowboy hat giveaway.
Find your next treasure at this flea market on Labor Day, September 4, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Originals Mall of Antiques has six of these flea markets throughout the year, but this will be one of the final times you have to check it out for 2023. If you miss it on Labor Day, you can visit the last market of the season on October 7.
Green Bay gives you easy access to anything and everything related to the Packers, as well as Door County, one of Wisconsin’s premier destinations for geological wonders and Lake Michigan viewing. Here are a few options you might want to check out for Labor Day weekend.
A visit to Titletown is always a great time. If you’re familiar with the development next to Lambeau Field, then you’ll also be familiar with the large hill used for sledding during the winter months. In the summer, the hill is used for other things, including Ariens Hill + Chill on September 2 and 3, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Relax while enjoying a variety of frozen cocktails (including non-alcoholic options).
Even if you’re a Green Bay local, you may have never found the chance to tour the Packers Heritage Trail. The long weekend is your opportunity. If you’re comfortable enough or able to go on foot, you can navigate the trail yourself using a map provided online. Assisted tours are also available if you’d rather not walk, though availability may vary.
If you’re willing to drive up to Sister Bay in Door County, you can check out Marina Fest. The event takes place on all three days of the long weekend and offers live music, food and fireworks. You can view the full schedule by clicking here.
Here at Network Health, we are often involved with events throughout Wisconsin communities too. Whether you’re a member who wants to connect or someone who just needs a resource for their wellness journey, check out our upcoming events in your area through the link below.
