Breathing Easier with Support

Taking a breath ought to be routine and easy, but for many people this critical function for everyday living is a challenge. If breathing problems are interfering with your life, you can do something about it.
The Better Breathers of the Fox Valley is a community wide support group for those affected by chronic lung diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer. Formed in 2009, the group focuses on giving its members tools to live the best lives they can.
Group meetings often feature expert speakers on topics of interest and value to the members, while also offering an opportunity for positive social interaction, emotional support and informal sharing.
The next meeting will be held on May 16. The group will also meet on June 20, August 15, September 19 and October 17. The program is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. and social hour is 2 to 3 p.m. The meetings are free, and family members and caretakers are also welcome.
Better Breathers is held at St. Elizabeth Hospital, 1506 S. Oneida Street in Appleton. It meets in the Helen C. Fowler conference room on the 2nd floor. Participants can enter through the main entrance. For directions and class cancellation, please call 920-738-2558 or email [email protected].
The Network Health Condition Management Team can also help members diagnosed with COPD. The team guides members through simple lifestyle modifications which may result in improved health outcomes and overall quality of life.
